Strijd der Planeten was a version of the American 'Battle of the Planets'. But Battle of the Planets is also a version... of the Japanese series Gatchaman. These were made in Japan by the Tatsunoko Studios and Japanese people could watch it on TV for the first time in 1972. In 1979 it was turned into Battle of the Planets (1979). Sandy Frank presented this show and sold it around the world.
Gatchaman can be defined as 'anime'. Anime means Japanese animated movie(s). , according to many sources. At this moment Pokémon and Dragonball Z are the probably the best known examples of anime, but Sailor Moon, CardCaptor Sakura, Hamtaro and Super Big are also from Japan. And the beautiful Daft Punk music videos are Japanese too.
