Original text and slight differences

Mark, Princess and Keyop

At the sound page you find Strijd der Planeten sound files. Here you find the original English texts. I do not have the original texts of The Space Pirate, so you can not find them here. You can choose an episode:

  1. The Space Mummy
  2. Ace From Outer Space
  3. Big Robot Gold Grab
  4. Magnetic Attraction
  5. The Musical Mummy

The Space Mummy
English text of: rotstreek.mp3
Zoltar: No games please. With your formula Spectra can dominate the world. I want it!
Mark: You won't get it!
Zoltar: G-Force!
Mark: This is your lowest trick of all, Zoltar.

Difference
In Dutch Mark calls Zoltars trick a mean and nasty trick. It was probably translated like this to dub in a good way.

Ace From Outer Space
English text of: compie.mp3
Zark: Because I have been working 'round the clock to design and supervise the construction of our new star ship in time for the big air show. I just love designing new space ships. It's wonderful to let your imagination sour into outer space.

English text of: terugsturen.mp3
Keyop: Prrrt-toot-toot-toot. Stuck 'm down.
Jason: Down boy! Mark don't you think we ought to send Princess and Keyop back to the Phoenix? This one is dangerous.
Princess: Maybe we should send you back Jason!

Big Robot Gold Grab
English text of: papa.mp3
Jason: Yeah! All right, you pretty babies. Daddy's gonna take you home.

Magnetic Attration

English text of: ruzie.mp3
Mark: No I don't think so. I'm sorry.
Chief Anderson: I understand.
Jason: Well, I don't. It's not like you to chicken out in an emergency like this Mark.
Mark: I wanna know what we're up against first.
Jason: And what do we in the mean time? Let them destroy our cities? Let's go after that space invader!
Mark: No. As long as I'm in command we keep the Phoenix grounded and ready.
Princess: Sorry Jason. I vote with Mark.
Keyopp: Me too.
Tiny: Double trick.
Mark: Well Jason?
Jason: No way!
Chief Anderson: Hold it!

The Musical Mummy
English text of: kiap-prinses.mp3
Keyop: Prrt-prrt-toot-toot-toot. Wanna go.
Princess: Can't you think of anything but fun, Keyop?
Keyop: Prrt. Basketball player.
Mark: Anderson doesn't warn his crew too often. What do you suppose has got him so uptight this time?
Keyop: Prrt-toot-toot. Come back later.
Princess: Keyop! Turn around and sit down.
Keyop: Prrt-pwp-toot. Killing joy.
(Mark, Jason and Tiny start laughing.)
Mark: Don't worry, Keyop. That statue won't go any place.

Difference
Here you find a weird difference. In Dutch Mark – sounds like it was dubbed by Jaap Stobbe (Jason) – that Keyop is normally very calm and now very uptight. In the original version Mark says that Anderson is uptight. It doesn't effect the rest of the story. Mark says elsewhere in this episode that Anderson seemed very nervous and that there are probably big trouble ahead.

English text of:
mark_vs_spectra.mp3
colleague of professor Lambert (Lampe in Dutch): These are plans for the new secret installation, professor Lambert. Centre Neptune would like force fields set up around them.
Professor Lambert: Guards! Emergency!
Spectra soldier: Too late, professor. We want those plans.
Mark: Transmute!
Spectra soldier: You would have been wiser not to come after us.
Mark: And you would have been wiser not to come down to us from planet Spectra!
Spectra soldier: Earth will soon belong to us and we won't have to make the trip anymore.

Difference
The last sentence was more clear in English. For years I thought 'trippie' (in the Dutch version, I don't think you can interpret the English word this way) had to do with the fact that the soldiers started chasing Mark. But when I watched this episode in English, I found out they meant that they don't have to go to earth anymore once it belongs to them.

Mark: Well, we know one thing. It couldn't have been this giant. He's just a statue.
Tiny: You sure that bump on the head didn't make you imagine it, Princess?
Princess: You don't have to take my word for it. Ask Keyop. He was there!
Jason: That's like asking Peter Pan if he believes in fairy tales.

Difference
In Dutch there is no saying like Jason uses. That is why they translated it with a funny sentence: 'yes, but he was also knocked on his cherry stone'. I think the short break (in which Jason seems to be looking for a word) was added to get the dubbing matching.

Jason: I think we got him.
Tiny: What do you mean 'we'? I'm the one who hit him with the car.
